Southeast Austin happy hours

Southeast Austin is the smallest happy hour map in the city after Northeast — fourteen places across Riverside, Montopolis and the stretch toward the airport. Nine of them are $-tier, which is the highest proportion anywhere in Austin. What is out here is mostly breweries and neighborhood bars, and the prices reflect that: ninety-five cent wings turn up twice on a list of fourteen.

Where to start

8 of the 14 we track, chosen for a reason rather than a rating. Hours below come straight from our database, not from this article.

  1. 01 · 20+ deals, and the only zero-proof option

    • Mon–Thu 4–6 PM

The largest board in Southeast Austin, the single venue out here discounting something non-alcoholic, and comfortably the best-regarded room on this list. The spring rolls and the tom yum are what people come back for.

  2. 02 · Ninety-five cent wings

    • Tue–Fri 4–7 PM
    • Mon, Thu 4 PM–2 AM
    • Tue 6 PM–1:30 AM

Wings under a dollar, Lone Star at two, domestic drafts and wells at three — about as cheap as a happy hour gets in Austin. Patio, pool, pinball, cornhole and a photobooth, which is the actual reason people stay.

  3. 03 · The same wings, until two in the morning

    • Mon, Thu 12 PM–2 AM
    • Tue–Fri 4–7 PM
    • Tue 6 PM–1:30 AM

Also ninety-five cents, on a window opening at noon and running to 2 AM — the longest in Southeast Austin by a distance. Covered patio, multiple bars, karaoke, dog-friendly.

  4. 04 · The biggest board out here

    • Mon–Fri 11 AM–6 PM
    • Mon–Fri 2–6 PM

20+ deals across a seven-hour weekday window, eleven to six. Affordable Tex-Mex, and the most choice available in this part of town.

  5. 05 · The one that runs every day

    • Daily 3–6 PM

Daily three to six, which in a part of town where only two venues manage a seven-day window makes it the dependable option. Three-dollar Shiner and two dollars off the signature cocktails.

  6. 06 · Five to ten, most nights

    • Mon–Thu, Sun 5–10 PM

A five-hour evening window Monday through Thursday and Sunday, which for this part of town is generous. A music and events space as much as a bar.

  7. 07 · Three-dollar bar snacks

    • Mon–Fri 3–6 PM

Pickled eggs and boiled peanuts at three dollars — not a meal, but the right food for the room. The pizza has a real reputation, and there is root beer on tap if you are not drinking.

  8. 08 · Noon to six, weekdays

    • Mon–Fri 12–6 PM

Six hours, five days a week — an afternoon option rather than an after-work one, and the margaritas are the order.

When Southeast Austin happy hour actually happens

Nine windows open at 4 PM and eleven close at 6 PM. That is the bulk of it, and on a list of fourteen there is not much distribution to describe.

The exceptions matter more here than in a bigger area. Three windows run to 2 AM and two to 1:30 AM, all of them at bars rather than restaurants. If you need somewhere out here after nine, that is effectively the whole list.

The cheapest part of Austin

Nine of the fourteen venues are $-tier. No other part of the city is close to that proportion — East Austin, the next best, runs well below that share.

That is partly a function of what is out here. Southeast Austin’s happy hour map is breweries, dive bars and one Taco Cabana, not restaurant bars discounting an expensive menu. The upside is that the prices are low outright. Ten of the fourteen put food on happy hour, though the boards are short — this is wings-and-a-beer territory rather than a dinner list.

A weekday area

Four venues have a weekend window. Two run daily. If your plan is for a Saturday, it is worth checking before you drive — and worth knowing that East Austin, with dozens of weekend windows, is not far away.
