West Austin happy hours
West Austin — Clarksville, Tarrytown, Westlake and the 360 corridor — is the priciest happy hour territory in the city. Only one of the 30+ places we track out here is $-tier, against dozens in East Austin. It is also one of the least weekend-friendly parts of town: fewer than half the places out here run a Saturday or Sunday window. Plan this one for a weekday, and plan it around the handful of rooms that discount properly.

Bluefin, salmon, eel, yellowtail, escolar and albacore all at two dollars a piece, on the largest food board out here. A long-standing celebration spot for people who live nearby.

Barbacoa stackers, crab dip, pimiento cheese and chips and salsa at half price on a thirty-four deal board. Late afternoon is the window and the room is rarely full at that hour.

Wings, frozen cocktails and the Ski burger at half price, and one of the more recently confirmed listings we hold out here. You are paying for the lake rather than the kitchen, which regulars say plainly — the half-price hour is when that maths works best.

Beer, wine and cocktails all poured from self-serve taps, all at half price, plus select appetizers. The simplest proposition on this list and the best-liked room in West Austin.

Pool Burger

A short list done properly — beer, sparkling rosé and frozen hurricanes at half price, next to a pool. The burger is genuinely well regarded; the full-price margaritas are small for the money, which is what makes the discount hour the one to use.

A big board for the format, making the bar a materially cheaper way into the room than the dining room. The steaks hold up better than the chain-steakhouse label implies.

Runs daily, which is unusual out here — the West Austin version of the downtown pattern, an expensive room selling its bar early. Live music in the lounge and service that gets singled out.

When West Austin happy hour actually happens
Three is the most common opening and four the second. On the other end, six is the most common close, then half past. That is a tighter and earlier distribution than the rest of Austin, and the practical consequence is that a West Austin happy hour is genuinely over by dinner.
Only a handful of places run past nine. If you want a late one on this side of town, the list is short enough to name: Waterloo on 360, Dog Haus at Four Points, and Maudie’s Cafe.
The weekend problem
Sixteen venues have a Saturday or Sunday window. That is a lower share than anywhere in the city bar Southeast Austin — East Austin runs half its list at the weekend — and it is the single most useful thing to know before driving out here on one.
Twelve places do run daily, which is a different and better list to work from if the plan is not on a weekday.
Where the value is
With just one $-tier venue, West Austin’s good deals are almost all percentage discounts off high regular prices rather than low prices outright. Five venues discount something by half. That is a small number, and it is most of the reason to plan rather than wander out here.
The exception, and it is a large one, is Waterloo Ice House on 360 — fifty-cent wings and a fourteen-hour window in the middle of the most expensive happy hour geography in Austin.
